Penn State Blows Up the Big House

Wow!

It has been a Long time since Penn State has won a game at the Big House. I really don't think that Penn State is that good of a team, Michigan sure did make them look good though.

I think it was quite apparent that Michigan had a total collapse. There wasn't one aspect of the game in which Michigan did not just "drop the ball", playing like it was the 5th quarter of the Delaware State game. Ok, except for #55 (he is the man).

Out coached, out talented, out played, out hit, I have no explanation, do you? I am a little tired of the "this is a young team" excuse. Time to man up and execute.

In the big picture, Michigan still Owns Penn State, but last weekend was quite an embarrassment.

Hope the team can get it's s*** together and beat Illinois.

2:43 Pm PST - Watching PSU on a great drive, USC just had a huge over the top TD play that caught PSU's D by surprise.

2:47 - PSU ties the game with a QB, Clark run 7-7, answering USC's big TD.

2:50 - End of first quarter, yet another Dodge Ram commercial, Sigh.

2:55 - USC moving the ball in the air. The size and athleticism of the USC receivers is very apparent.

2:57 - USC in the Red Zone.

3:00 - USC QB draw Sanchez score. 14-7

3:04 - PSU ground game, short of the 1st down, punt. (bad play call)

3:09 - USC is warming up I can see this game getting out of hand for PSU.

3:13 - USC in the Red Zone, again.

3:14 - USC 30 yd FG 17-7, althought Brent Mush-Burger thinks its 17-10 LOL

3:19 - Big 3rd dwn for PSU, hit on release , Punt.

3:26 - 1st sack of the game, by PSU. 5 penalties by PSU, mis-matches all over the place.

3:30 - USC eating up the seams, TD 24-7 USC. I smell a rout...

3:34 - Green, huge yardage on screen, then fumble, USC recovers. Ugh

3:39 - USC Dominating, TD on a screen, 31-7

3:45 - PSU penalties hurting, USC going for the jugular as usual. PSU has no chance. HALF TIME.

Game Day Coffee Musings

It is early here on the West Coast. The first rainy morning I have seen in about a year. The cool breeze and the smell of wet ground makes me nostalgic for the Midwest and Michigan in particular. I am up to watch ESPN's special on Russell Crowe's visit to Michigan and his friend Lloyd Carr. Didn't sleep much thinking about the game. Why? too many questions. Questions that Michigan needs to answer, today.

Today is the day for Michigan to let the country and themselves know what kind of team they really are. Are they the team that got pushed around and beat by Appy State, are they the team that looked as if they had quit against the Oregon Ducks? or are they the team that came out fast and hard hitting against the Irish?

There is no doubt in my mind that this team is much better then the team that has stepped out on the field turf the last few weeks.

Defense, that is the word of the day. Penn State is going to go right after Mike Hart and It is imperative for Michigan to pressure Anthony Morrelli and force him into mistakes.

Time to put the Big Ten on notice, time for Michigan to show that they are not the overrated joke of the conference. The past three weeks are just that, past.

The run for the Big Ten starts today.

He Lurks Around Every Corner, I mean Loss

After the devastating loss to Appy State and then the crushing by the Ducks, every Michigan blog and Internet forum were on overload with fans that wanted Lloyd Carr's head on a stake out on State Street.

There is nothing like winning to quiet the homicidal fantasies and the loud cries to the angel of death. Yet, the mob is restless. They hear the Lions off in the distance, the hurt and vengeful Lions, so thirsty for Wolverine blood. (See Video)


Penn State fans celebrate Michigan's downfall at the hands of the Appy State.

Most fans know that Michigan beat a really, REALLY bad Notre Dame team, but that isn't the point, Michigan won. It took much of the focus off of the Wolverines and has now shifted it squarely on the shoulders of the Irish and other teams that were unexpectedly crushed, (enter #11 UCLA, Louisville, etc..).

Michigan fans are resting their hopes in the knowledge that Michigan has OWNED Penn State and JoPa for the last 8 years, and cannot deny that it has been Lloyd Carr on the sideline opposite of the icon they call JoPa. Pay that no matter. If Penn State comes to the Big House and lands a vengeful blow to this Michigan team, the Maize will don black and the cries will once again begin, heating up hard drives from east coast to west, post counts will rocket in forums, YouTube confessionals will blather on and hate filled e-mails will bulge the inbox of Michigan's AD.

He awaits the next loss, just around the corner, waiting for the loud cries to beckon him once again. He holds no allegiance to any measly college football team, he belongs to a much bigger conference that never gets cheated.

Yet once again, the metallic sound of the razor sharp sickle will not be heard. The mob marching with their torches (keyboards) will be in vain. Yet another week, Lloyd will still be in the tower looking down, and he will continue to give really snide answers to questions.

Michigan faithful, would Chad coming back for the Penn State game be a good thing (considering the way he has been playing) or a bad thing? Have you embraced Ryan mallet as the Wolverine's QB already?

Does Michigan need Chad Henne's experience to beat Penn State? Or should Lloyd just concede that the future of Michigan football started when Ryan took over for Chad against the Ducks?

The Spread

I have heard many fans and sportswriters talking about how Michigan may have a chance once they start the Big Ten season, due to the fact that no teams will run the spread offense. Well of all people to change with the times Joe Paterno of Penn State "has ditched the pro set for a modified spread under the tutelage of Galen Hall." As this article points out on CBS Sportsline, the spread is part of the "constant evolution" of NCAA football.

This is something completely foreign to the Michigan program which has flat out refused to jump into the 21st century of college football.

The sad but awful truth is teams such as Appalachian State and Oregon have finally slapped Lloyd Carr in the face so hard with the spread, there is no denying it any longer. Not that there haven't been plenty of chances and red flags to tell the Michigan program that the future had arrived and Michigan is on the sideline watching, mouth breathing and stunned. Lets see, Northwestern, Michigan State, Utah, Ball State, Texas, Vanderbilt, Nebraska, USC, the list goes on and back a few years.

The article from CBS Sportsline also mentions "Bob Dylan song called The Times They Are a-Changin", that song is the warning that went unheeded, now the song in Ann Arbor is "REM, It's the end of the world as we know it".

All one would have to do is sit and watch other conference games over the past few years and anyone involved with football would see it coming, why didn't Michigan? Well it (the future) is here and Michigan is NOT ready and may pay for it for a few more years unless drastic change happens and happens quick.
